Connecting the dots between prevention, rehabilitation and traditional benefits

The majority of Income Protection claims in 2025 were for mental illness, musculoskeletal conditions and cancer - but the spread of conditions across the remaining categories is a reminder that income can stop in ways that are difficult to predict.

For three in four claimants, our Enhanced Recovery Benefit (see below) can play a vital role - connecting members with rehabilitation support across cancer, musculoskeletal, mental health and neurological pathways so they can return to work sooner.

Our product features

Enhanced Recovery Benefit

Clients claiming for mental health, cancer, musculoskeletal and neurological conditions get access to rehabilitation support powered by VitalityHealth’s clinical expertise immediately from the point of claim.

Earnings Guarantee

Our Earnings Guarantee allows clients to provide evidence – such as payslips or tax returns - within six months of their plan going live to secure 100% of their monthly benefit, up to a maximum of £8,000 per month. This protects clients against any drop in earnings.

Income Boost

Our unique Vitality Income Boost pays out up to 20% extra, over and above the core income protection payout, for the first six months of a claim, based on the members pre-claim Vitality status.

Guaranteed Insurability Options (GIOs)

If a client's job changes resulting in a reduction in sick pay, they can reduce their deferred period. Clients re-mortgaging can also increase their plan term. All without being subject to additional medical underwriting.

Alex’s Income Protection Cover story - Parkinson's Disease

£2,000 monthly benefit, index-linked and Enhanced Recovery Benefit

Alex’s Vitality Income Protection plan had been in place for seven years when she was diagnosed with Parkinson’s in January 2025. Initially able to carry on working in a reduced capacity, the symptoms worsened and by November 2025 she had to give up work.

After a two-month deferred period, she began receiving a monthly benefit of £2,000. She’d opted to index-link her plan, meaning her benefit amount had increased by over £500 in the preceding years. She was also covered by Vitality’s Earnings Guarantee. This meant her reduced salary in the 11 months following her diagnosis had no impact on the eventual benefit payments. Vitality’s Enhanced Recovery Benefit provided her with access to neuro-physiotherapy to help manage symptoms and counselling following the diagnosis.
